Doncaster Royal Infirmary Repairs
The recent report findings that there would be an 'increased risk to life' if a fire were to occur at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sites are unacceptable.
I am pleased to see that Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are funding redevelopment to part of the Doncaster Royal Infirmary site. These repairs and more are desperately needed as it was recently identified that there is an increased risk to life because of the conditions of buildings at DRI. Infrastructure in the West Block dates back to the 1930’s and the East Block to the 1960’s. These older buildings, while integral to the delivery of DRI’s services and workplace to hundreds of dedicated NHS staff, present significant challenges for maintenance, modernisation and performance of healthcare services.
Before Christmas, I and other Doncaster MPs met with Health Minister Karin Smyth to discuss the repair back log at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. Following the Trust’s report, this week I will be raising urgent concerns with government ministers to address building safety at our hospital. I asked the Leader of the House for a further meeting with Health Ministers to discuss this serious and ongoing issue.
